Illinois Concealed Carry Law
Illinois concealed carry law is a valuable tool for gun owners across the state. Carrying a firearm in public is a tremendous responsibility, and our training prepares you to meet the legal requirements for your Illinois Concealed Carry License with confidence.
To qualify, you must be at least 21 years old and complete a 16-hour firearms training course taught by a state-approved instructor. Once licensed, you may carry a concealed loaded or unloaded handgun on your person or in your vehicle. Our classes cover both the legal fundamentals and the practical, self-defense use of a firearm.
How to Complete Your Illinois CCL Renewal
Renewing your permit on time keeps you legal and avoids serious consequences. You may take the renewal class up to one year before your license expires, but you cannot submit your application until 30 days before the expiration date. To renew you will need:
- A certificate signed by your instructor showing you completed the training
- A valid FOID card and a driver license or state ID
- An ID photo
Documents can be scanned and submitted to the Illinois State Police through their website.
Your FOID Card
A valid Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card is required for both initial and renewal applications. The Illinois State Police website provides instructions and lets you check your application status at ispfsb.com.
