Getting Started

Do I need a FOID card to take the class?

No. A FOID card is not required to attend our 16-hour Illinois Concealed Carry class. If you already have one, bring it, since you will need a valid FOID card when you submit your concealed carry license application to the Illinois State Police.

What should I bring to class?

Bring your Illinois driver license or photo ID, your FOID card if you have one, a pen and notepad, eye and ear protection, and a baseball cap for live fire. Please do not bring guns or ammunition to the classroom. Module 4 uses school-provided firearms only.

How long is the concealed carry class?

The full Illinois Concealed Carry class is 16 hours. We run it on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and also offer weeknight sessions from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. taken one module at a time. Renewal classes are shorter, typically 3 hours.

What does the 16-hour course include?

Your tuition includes range access, a firearm, ammunition, certified targets, eye and ear protection, your Illinois certificate of completion, a 269-page illustrated manual, and legal defense plan information. No FOID card is required to attend.

How many states can I carry in with an Illinois CCL?

Your Illinois Concealed Carry License currently lets you carry in 34 states. Adding a Florida non-resident permit extends that to 5 additional states. We can fingerprint you on-site and help with both applications.

Do you provide a firearm and ammunition?

Yes. The school provides a firearm and 30 rounds of ammunition for range qualification, so you do not need to bring your own. Qualification is fired on a B-27 silhouette target: 10 rounds at 5 yards, 10 at 7 yards, and 10 at 10 yards, with a passing score of 21 of 30.

When can I renew my Illinois CCL?

You can take the renewal class up to one year before your license expires, but you cannot submit your renewal application to the Illinois State Police until 30 days before the expiration date. To renew, you will need your instructor-signed training certificate, a valid FOID card and driver license or state ID, and an ID photo.
